Tournament, Tea and AGM
A final reminder about the club AGM which will be happening on Saturday 28th April at the Leisure Centre.
We are holding a friendly mixed tournament for anyone who wants to play – registration from midday with the games starting at 12.30pm.  This will be wrapped up by 2.30pm so that people can change before getting together for tea, sandwiches and cakes at 3pm, and the AGM itself at 3.30pm. (We’ve managed to keep the meeting part down to about 30 minutes for the last few years, which is the plan again this time!) There will be a £5 match fee for the tournament to cover costs.
Any indication of numbers in advance for playing and teas would be very useful, so please reply or text a captain to confirm.  We would also welcome offers to contribute to the sandwiches and cakes, so we put on a good spread.
The tournament was great fun last year so we strongly encourage you to take part and help make it a fantastic club event.
Committee and Club Roles
This is also your opportunity to get more involved in the running of the club – if you would be interested in putting yourself forward for any role on the committee or elsewhere, please let us know and we will get in touch to discuss and make sure you’re included in the nominations.  We also have a vacancy for Ladies 3s captain which we are keen to fill as soon as possible.
Summer Training
Starting from Wednesday 25th April we will be running summer training sessions from 7.00-8.30pm for both juniors and seniors.  These will focus on game play with supplementary coaching exercises, and provide the opportunity to mix players up by ability, and help the juniors integrate with the senior players.  Cost will be £2 per player per session.
This will complement the playing opportunities for Ladies in the new summer league, and for juniors taking part in the Badgers league.
Training Jackets
Those of you who have pre-ordered jackets can now collect them at training or the AGM tournament, once you’ve paid.  (Price is £15, which needs to be provided in cash!)
Coaching Course (Introduction to Hockey / Level 1 equivalent)
We’re pleased to announce that this coaching course will be running at Whitchurch on Saturday 9th June.  We’re still waiting for England Hockey to confirm exact details of times and cost, but if you are interested in helping out with coaching, or improving your own understanding of the game (and you are 16 or over) please let us know if you’d like to participate.

Whitchurch Awards dinner – deadline 17th March 2018

Dear Members, Players, Supporters and Friends,

We’re now into March and the end of the hockey season is getting closer.  It’s just under three weeks until our ‘End of Season Do’ so we’d love you to tell us if you’re planning on coming.  Please just complete the on-line form here and then choose your menu (form attached), finally hand your money and menu form to your captains or a committee member.  We really need everyone signed up by 17th March please.

If you’ve not yet decided to attend the ‘End of Season Do’, here’s a few reasons why you should come!

  1. You may have won an award!  Senior club awards will be presented including each team’s best player and captain’s player.
  2. You may NOT have won an award but one of your team mates will, so you should be there to help them celebrate!
  3. The end of the hockey season needs to be celebrated! You’ve spent the last six months committed to playing hockey; it’s been hard work!  Let’s celebrate a welcome break!
  4. Whether your team has done well or not in your respective league, coming together as a team and club is an essential way of bonding!
  5. We have booked a disco!  Say no more.

Finally, we’re organising a raffle, if you’re able to donate a prize, be it a bottle of wine, some chocolates or something else, please can you let joanne.hockenhull@whitchurchhockeyclub.com know please.

Many thanks,

Catherine R-G

Newsletter/Club Survey & New club jackets

Hi everyone,

We hope you’ve all now enjoying being back on the pitch for the remainder of the 2017-18 hockey season!
We’re sending this email as we’ve got a few things to tell you, and we’d also like your feedback…

Firstly, a few dates for your diaries…

24th March – End of Season Do: ‘Awards/Dinner/Dance’

This is for senior players (13+), partners and supporters. Please join us for the evening to celebrate the end of the hockey season, enjoy dinner, awards and then a bit of disco! This will be a ticketed event and will be held in a Whitchurch venue, price will be around £20 and details will be sent out very soon.  It’s really important that we get as many people attending as possible in order to make this event a success, so please keep the date free and dust off your best outfit!

28th April – AGM and Academy Awards (with an intra-club tournament)

This event ran last year and went well, so we’re repeating it this year. We’ll start off with a tournament, then the annual AGM and finally (but most importantly) our Academy Awards. We’ll also organise some food and drinks, making this an all-round fun event to attend.  It’ll be held at SJT. All are welcome.

Feedback needed please…

We would like your feedback on the season so far and ways in which we could improve the club generally. Please use this form to give us your thoughts, and also to confirm whether you will be attending the events listed above. Here’s the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe6wOQ9L33k-90rT9bFN231c0TElJ5wlaIr9dKuOFLV55yQuw/viewform?usp=sf_link

(Please note, we’ve also included some questions about certifications – we are in the process of getting our paperwork up-to-date for renewing our club kite mark and any information about YOUR coaching, umpiring, first aid and welfare certifications would be great to get on our register.)

Sponsorship offer…

We have been very kindly offered a £500 kit sponsorship from Grace Berry’s (Ladies 1s) mum’s company www.schoolshopdirect.co.uk which we will be using to subsidise this jacket (shown at the end of the feedback form).  Normally £25, we will offer it for £15 to the first 50 respondents of our feedback survey (who want one of course!).  Please complete the section at the end of the survey form. This offer is initially open to senior and student players currently playing in senior Men’s and Ladies games and we’ll contact you by email to arrange an order.

The closing date for the survey is Monday February 19th 2018.

That’s it for now, please let us know if you have any questions, ideas or want to help out with the running of the club (new committee members & helpers always welcome..) and enjoy the remainder of the season!
